This week wrapped
The news, the chaos, the small laughter
What’s up guyyy?
Between the Spotify Wrapped noise where everybody suddenly discovered they are top 0.1 percent listeners of one artist and Detty December planning, everybody is acting like the economy isn’t choking them. Nigeria still managed to squeeze in drama, politics and small victories. Here’s everything that happened this week while you were minding your business.
Resident Doctors: Strike Off for Now
Nigeria finally caught a small break. Resident doctors suspended their month-long strike and returned to work. UCH Ibadan has resumed activities and hospitals are breathing again.
But NARD (Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors) warned the government with a four week countdown. If FG fumbles the agreement, they’re walking right back out. Nigeria knows this cycle too well.
A gentle reminder that our health sector still needs steady support and consistency to work the way it should.
RSU: Kidnap, Rescue and Campus Shutdown
Rivers State University had the kind of week nobody prays for. Five students were kidnapped around the Emuoha campus area. Thankfully, police rescued all five safely.
Management immediately told students to pack their loads and leave that campus for now. Lectures suspended. Everything cancelled.
The whole situation left students anxious, but relief came with the safe rescue.
ASUU and FG: Peace Moment
In a plot twist, ASUU and the Federal Government actually agreed on a new salary and allowance structure.
Highlights:
• 40% salary increase
• earned academic allowances to be paid yearly
If this holds, campuses might enjoy peace. If it collapses, students know the drill. Everybody will start calculating how many weeks they have already spent in each level.
Insecurity Tension: Nigeria on Alert
The Defence Minister resigned "due to health concerns" this week at a time when insecurity is rising nationwide. FG says they are planning a full security overhaul. Nigerians heard it, nodded slowly and kept scrolling waiting for real action.
Meanwhile Detty December is peeping from the corner like, “Hope say una go settle this thing before party season starts o.”
Quality of Universities Under Spotlight
Former INEC chairman Jega offloaded some harsh truth about Nigeria’s university system. He pointed at poor governance, underfunding and leadership issues as the main reasons the system is weakening.
Quantity is increasing. Quality is not. Students across the country read it and said, “Tell us something we don’t know.”
Let's recap,
So yeah. That’s the week. RSU students survived a scare. Doctors returned to duty. ASUU and FG smiled at each other for the first time in a while. The security situation is still giving everybody small fear. And Detty December is warming up like it has no idea rice is now gold.
Stay safe, stay sane, don’t forget to check our your university wrapped on our Instagram. I know you can relate.
