Electric cars, NYSC wahala, a calm convocation & a cat that attended lectures
What’s up guyyy?
I planned to be productive this weekend, but my bed, shawarma, and spicy noodles have other plans. While I negotiate with my life, here’s what went down on campuses this week:
EKSU Student Presents Electric Vehicle
An Engineering student of Ekiti State University (EKSU) presented an electric vehicle he built to his department. The presentation, captured on video and shared online, showed the student demonstrating the vehicle within the faculty premises while lecturers and students observed.
The project drew attention as an example of practical engineering work coming out of a public university, with many noting that the vehicle appeared functional rather than purely conceptual.
UNILAG Holds Convocation Ceremony
The University of Lagos held its 56th convocation ceremony, graduating students across multiple faculties. The event marked the official completion of academic programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students, with families and staff in attendance.
While it was a major milestone for the graduates involved, the ceremony passed quietly online compared to past convocations.
Kwara Poly Restricts Movement Over Nysc Camp
Students at Kwara State Polytechnic protested after the campus was used as a makeshift NYSC orientation camp without proper planning or welfare considerations.
Hostels were occupied, academic activities and sports halted
A peaceful demonstration on Jan 22 was reportedly met with tear gas and forced evacuations
The SUG clarified it was about student welfare, not anti-NYSC sentiment
All of it was another reminder that on Nigerian campuses, policy changes never come quietly.
Student Brings Pet Cat To Class
A female student went viral after she was seen attending lectures with her pet cat. The cat was carried into the lecture hall and remained calm throughout the class, drawing attention from fellow students who recorded and shared the moment online.
The reactions? Shock, Laughter.
“Is this allowed?”
“Abeg whose course mate is this?”
“This cat is calmer than my ex”
“Student of the year”
Whether it was emotional support, content creation, or just vibes, one thing is clear: this semester already has character.
Let's recap,
From students building electric cars to others graduating, adjusting to new rules, or redefining classroom norms, Nigerian campuses are doing what they do best: never being boring.
